Golf Day report

On 4th September Dawn Patrol organized a Charity Golf Day at Upchurch Valley Golf Club to raise funds for Prostate Cancer UK.

The day was extremely successful and we raised £3,800 on the day and £3,913 in total .

We would like to thank

  • all the players who participated on the day which made it the success that it was
  • each of our sponsors Arundel Care Group Limited, Kent Kidney Patients Association, Earl Street Recruitment, Innovi Advisors Limited, Kent Property Meet , Maidstone MOT and Garage and Quills Solicitors without whose sponsorship we wouldn’t have reached such an amazing total
  • Upchurch Valley Golf Club for hosting the tournament and making us very welcome
  • Andy Byskup who spoke honestly and frankly to our players about receiving a Prostate Cancer diagnosis ; and
  • Cameron who helped us with “all things golf” .

Fun River Trip for Young Carers in Maidstone

What a fantastic day on the Kingfisher for the Young Carers of Barming Primary School.

Maidstone Dawn Patrol Rotary Club was proud to organise a well‑deserved break for these incredible children who give so much at home.

An exciting trip along the river Medway , fresh air, plenty of fun and an opportunity to take the helm and drive the boat under supervision.

Huge thanks to everyone who helped make it special.

Kevin’s retirement

From Norman

Not only has Kevin retired from work but also from Rotary.

Mary our club secretary and I met Kevin recently to receive his account records and arrange for the change over to a new club treasurer, and to relieve him of the various roles he has taken charge of during his tenure.

Kevin has been a member of Maidstone Dawn Patrol Rotary Club for over twenty years, joining when the club was still in its infancy and it wasn’t long before he assumed the role of treasurer which he has held until his retirement from club and Rotary at the 30th June this year.

He will be missed especially by those who were members from the beginning some twenty-five years ago.

We all wish him well on his travels which we understand will be many and varied, joining his son along the way.

Abigail’s Footsteps visit our recent meeting

💜 Team Abigail’s visited the Maidstone Dawn Patrol Rotary Club Meeting to receive a cheque for £1,055 which was raised through a charity quiz night.

💜 Alyssa, Abigail’s Footsteps said “The quiz night organised by the Maidstone Dawn Patrol Rotary Club in honour of Abigail’s Footsteps was a wonderful evening. We are absolutely blown away by the total raised, and we credit so much of this to your tireless work in promoting the event and ensuring the evening ran so smoothly.”

💜 Natalka Sokolowski, President Elect, said “The Maidstone Dawn Patrol Rotary club is one of three Rotary Clubs in Maidstone that works to support local charities and organisations. Abigail’s Footsteps is such an amazing charity supporting bereaved parents through the most unimaginable grief so we decided to do what we could to try to raise some money to help them with the work they do. The quiz night had a great atmosphere, good community spirit and was a huge success. We were able to raise £1055, exceeding all our expectations, and are very pleased to have been able to donate that to Abigail’s Footsteps.”

Annual Christmas carols and music event cheque presentations

Maidstone Dawn Patrol Rotary Club has an annual Christmas carols and music event at M&S, Eclipse Park, Maidstone.

President Norman Springett, a former SERV Kent member, chose SERV as his main charity along with Child’s Vision a local charity which supports children who have experienced domestic abuse.

SERV Kent more commonly known as blood runners is a group of volunteers entirely self funded who transport urgently needed blood and blood products between the Blood Bank at St George’s Hospital in Tooting to hospitals in Kent; this they do 24/7 365 days a year. They also transport blood and other medical samples, equipment and breast milk. In addition they keep the Kent Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance supplied with blood for transfusions.

Checque presentation to SERV Kent

At our meeting on the 22nd January at Cobtree Manor Golf Club we presented them with a cheque for £1,000.

The Club also presented Child Vision with £250.

We are grateful to M&S management and staff for their welcome again this year. M & S supports a charity each year however that weekend, they were happy to support the Rotary Club’s chosen charities and the amount raised was split between these two;

Child’s Vision being not only a charity supported by Dawn Patrol but has also been supported by M & S over the past two years.

We also thank SERV Kent members for turning out to support us, they certainly added a presence with their marked bikes which didn’t just attract interest from youngsters.

Club Activity update: 20th November

While the ladies were busy wrapping presents in preparation for the Christmas sleigh runs leading up to Christmas, and for Santa to give to children in hospital on Christmas Day, Bryan Clinton and President Norman were planting crocuses in Barming Parish. These are purple crocuses planted in support of the Polio Eradication Initiative; purple because when each child receives their immunisation, they dip their little finger into purple dye to show they have been immunised, hence the purple crocuses.

The money raised in the purchase of the crocus corms adds to the fund for the initiative and, providing Rotary raise more the US$50m in the year, the Gates Foundation will match this two to one.

In November 2007 Rotary International entered this unique partnership with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Rotary is the main private sector donor to polio eradication as Rotary members have contributed more than $2.7 billion dollars and countless volunteer hours to the fight to end polio.

Rotary International is the world’s first and largest humanitarian service organization with a global network of 1.4 million members in more than 170 countries. Through its PolioPlus programme, established in 1985, Rotary was the first to have the vision of a polio-free world.
